After save/action redirect to

Designer › Settings › Form viewer

After save/action redirect to decides where users go after they select Save and Close or run a workflow action. You find it in the designer: Settings → Form viewer.

The After save/action redirect to setting

A plain Save (in the drop-down next to Save and Close) keeps the form open, so this setting doesn't apply to it.

Custom URL

Type any address. Use {{ID}} for the ID of the saved item. Other field tokens, such as {{Title}}, aren't replaced in an address. For example:

  • A thank-you page: https://contoso.sharepoint.com/sites/hr/SitePages/Thank-you.aspx
  • A page that shows the item: https://contoso.sharepoint.com/sites/hr/SitePages/Request.aspx?item={{ID}}

Use a full address (https://…) or one that starts with /, such as /sites/hr/SitePages/Thank-you.aspx. An address without the leading / (for example SitePages/Thank-you.aspx) leads to different places depending on how the form was opened.

Select the Test link icon next to the address to open it in a new tab. In the test, {{ID}} isn't replaced.

Good to know

  • A workflow action can have its own redirect, in the action's properties under Redirect → Post-action redirect URL. If it's set to anything other than Default, it's used instead of this setting. See Workflow Actions – Configuration and Settings.
  • If a confirmation screen is on, users see it first and are redirected after they select OK.
  • When the form is opened in a popup or embedded in a page, Form in edit mode and Form in view mode reopen the item there. Every other option just closes the form.
  • External users have their own setting: After external save redirect to. Use a full https://… address there. External forms don't run on your SharePoint site, so an address starting with / doesn't work. See External Access & Sharing.
